A MUSSELBURGH businessman and author is taking part in Sober October to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Alex Brown, who owns Ideal Flooring Solutions, has pledged to remain alcohol-free for 31 days in October and has already collected more than £1,300 via his fundraising page.

A keen fundraiser for good causes, he said: “This is one I have always said I would do and it feels right to do this at this time, when many charities are suffering due to a shortage of donations because of Covid-19.

“I am amazed I raised so much in a matter of days.

“Macmillan is a charity very close to my heart as I have lost many friends and family to cancer.”

Alex, author of the thriller Hit Me, added: “It’s a difficult time for everyone not knowing what’s coming next with the pandemic, then having to have chemotherapy or other treatments for cancer. This must be even more worrying for the patient.

“A month with no alcohol is the very least I can do to raise funds for such a worthy charity.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for all the incredible support I am receiving, as without them I could not continue to try to make a difference.”

Macmillan is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. It also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care.
