A GULLANE man who set fire to the farm shop at Fenton Barns just before Christmas last year has been jailed for 21 months.

Ryan Gillies recklessly set light to the shop and café whereby property and stock were damaged.

Gillies, 23, also broke into Gullane Golf Club and stole alcohol on the same night in December.

He appeared from custody in front of Sheriff Chris Dickson and pleaded guilty to three offences.

He also admitted acting in an aggressive manner towards a man and threatening him with violence at the farm shop on Christmas Eve last year.

Gillies was sentenced to 21 months in custody when he returned to the dock for sentencing last Thursday.

His co-accused, a 17-year-old girl who cannot be identified due to her age, pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol from Gullane Golf Club on December 23 last year.

She also admitted to breaking into the Fenton Barns Farm Shop & Café and stealing a quantity of alcohol the following night.

Sentence was deferred on the teenager to March next year.

Gillies had not guilty pleas accepted by the Crown to stealing alcohol from Fenton Barns Farm Shop on December 23 last year and to possessing an offensive weapon, namely a multi-tool, on the same date.
