A NORTH Berwick High School pupil has been appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for East Lothian, just like his brother.

Fergus McClintock is a Cadet Sergeant in the 132 North Berwick Squadron ATC.

He follows in his brother John-Andrew’s footsteps, as he was also appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet in 2018.

Fergus, 16, joined the squadron in August 2016 and enjoys many aspects of cadet life, including drills, fieldcraft, Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and supporting and instructing the younger cadets in his role as cadet sergeant.

He is also a keen piper and has been a committed member of the Air Training Corps Pipes and Drums, instructing here as well as playing, and has risen through the ranks to Cadet Pipe Major.

Fergus regularly attends ATC and Tri-service pipes and drums camps and training weekends and has performed with the band at annual events such as Tri-service Cadet Pipes and Drums competitions; Beating the Retreat on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade; and performing at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.

In August last year, the Tri-service band played at Balmoral Castle in front of the Queen and Fergus had the honour of being presented to Her Majesty afterwards.

He also played a solo rendition of Battle’s O’er at Westminster Abbey last Remembrance Day. And he recently wrote and performed a four-part march in honour of Air Commodore Dawn Macafferty on her retirement from the role of Commandant Air Cadets.
