NEW positive coronavirus tests have been confirmed at two of East Lothian's secondary schools.

Both Ross High School in Tranent and Musselburgh Grammar School have recorded positive tests today (Wednesday).

The secondary schools, along with NHS Lothian, have already got in touch with parents and carers about the issue.

A statement from Ross High School said: "There has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

"Following a risk assessment by NHS Lothian’s Health Protection Team and the school, it has been confirmed that the case has not been at school whilst they have been infectious.

"Anyone who has been in direct contact with the confirmed case during their infectious period have been contacted and will be staying at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend school if they remain well."

The announcement means that four of East Lothian's six secondary schools have now recorded positive tests.

Preston Lodge High School in Prestonpans, Haddington's Knox Academy and Musselburgh Grammar School all previously confirmed positive tests.

There have also been positive tests at Haddington Primary School and Preston Tower Primary School in Prestonpans, as well as St Mary's Nursery in Haddington.

On the latest case at the school, a statement from Musselburgh Grammar School reads: "We are aware of a second person in the school who has tested positive for Covid-19 within the last few days.

"We have been working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.

"A small number of people have now been contacted because they have been in close and sustained contact with the case.

"These contacts will need to self-isolate and appropriate guidance and advice has been given.

"If you have not been contacted directly to tell you your child is a close contact, your child should attend school as normal.

"Enhanced cleaning and infection control measures are in place in line with national guidance.

"The school is safe and remains open."
