PLANS to transform a large storage area at the Day-Today store in Wallyford into a cafe/coffee shop have been lodged with East Lothian Council.

Boss Fiasal Omer wants to provide tables for customers to sit and chat over a cuppa and snack.

He intends sell hot and soft drinks, scones, cakes, filled rolls, pastries, hot soup and pies.

He has applied to the council’s planning department to part change the use of the premises to create the new cafe/coffee shop.

John Caldwell, a former councillor and the store’s business advisor, said: “Wallyford is a growing village with many new houses being built at the east end, with no additional facilities. The only facilities currently are at the existing row of shops at Salters road. The Day-Today store in Salters Road attracts a large number of customers from the village, with a considerable number purchasing take away foods.

“A coffee machine was installed a few years ago which has been very successful and therefore gives the basis of extending and enhancing this service, which many customers have suggested.”
