TWO dilapidated playparks go under the hammer tomorrow (Friday).

The two plots of land, which are being auctioned by Future Property Auctions, at Wilson Road and neighbouring Wilson Place in Dunbar, can be bought for just £6,000.

According to the description for the sites on the company’s website: “Two substantial plots in popular residential area. Plots comprise mostly open amenity areas. Sought-after location, excellent-sized plots. Close to local amenities, transport links.”

Last month, 10-year-old Eva McCandlish made a plea to the Courier to “save our park before it is too late”.

Currently, a padlock and chain are across the gate to the playpark on Wilson Road, which is full of weeds, with paint flaking off the equipment.

Eva, who attends the town’s primary school, said: “Our park has become extremely overgrown with weeds, an eyesore for the rest of our street.

“The park has been unusable for years because some of the items are just not safe. It is just cruel to tell young children that they are not allowed to play in the park opposite them.”

Previously, East Lothian Council confirmed it was not one of its parks and the park did not fall under a site that would be covered by the health and safety department.

Jacquie Bell, secretary of Dunbar Community Council, has written to the Courier suggesting the plots could only be sold for use as playparks

She said: "The sale has been referred to Trading Standards and Advertising Standards Authority as... [there is] no mention that they are playparks and cannot be built on."
