MORE than 50 new jobs are being created at a new £8.5 million care home for the elderly in Musselburgh.

Harbour House is due to open next month on the site of the former Quay restaurant, leisure complex and function suite overlooking Fisherrow Harbour.

Operated by company Morar Living, the care home has already created 23 new jobs in phase one of recruitment, including kitchen, domestic, laundry, maintenance, administration, wellbeing and care/nursing staff.

Lynne Mekshi, manager, said: “There are a mix of part and full-time positions and, in total, at the end of our recruitment, there will be over 50 new jobs created.”

The transformation of the building, which has taken 17 months, has involved a total redesign and rebuild of the interior to deliver “a luxurious and comfortable environment for those who choose to live here”.

East Lothian Courier:

It will cater for 43 residents aged over 65 and will be accepting both private and local authority residents.

Mrs Mekshi added: “We have received several enquiries from individuals who are wishing to come and live at Harbour House.

"When we are near completion, we will carefully conduct a pre-assessment for all individuals who choose to move into their new home.”
