A TOTAL of £2,590 has been raised for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) by darts players in Musselburgh this year.

The ‘B’ team at the Riverside Tavern chose to support the charity, which works in communities to provide mental health support and services.

Just before Christmas last year, Jake Nelson, who played for the darts team for nearly 30 years, passed away.

His family donated £300 for SAMH, which was collected at his funeral.

Generous sponsors RJ Fixings, Capital Conservation, MMM Joinery, Dynamic Shopfitters, Howdens, Numbers Made Easy and the Riverside Tavern also paid to have their logos on the team’s shirts, with the £1,250 profit going to the charity.

The Denis McGlynn Memorial Competition last November raised £1,040.

The annual tournament is for a trophy donated by friends of Mr McGlynn, a regular at the Riverside and a local darts player.

Sponsors including the Riverside Tavern, Rob Chapman, RJ Fixings, Martin Henderson, Darts N Arts and the Riverside ‘B’ team itself each donated £100 to have their names on posters advertising the competition. A raffle also took place.

The team was due to finish this year’s fundraising with a fancy dress walk on June 13 but the event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
