Housebuilder helps care home residents to get the Courier

Responding to an East Lothian Courier appeal to support local news and local journalism, Robertson Homes has stepped in and will pay for 600 copies of the Courier to be delivered to more than a dozen care homes across East Lothian – from Musselburgh to Dunbar, Tranent to North Berwick, and Gullane to Wallyford, as well as Haddington – over the next eight weeks.

Robertson Homes is currently building new family homes at Dovecot Grange in Haddington and at Fair Acres in Dunbar, where it is reaching the final phase of construction.

Robertson Homes’ sales manager Karen Mercer said: “Community is at the heart of everything we do at Robertson Homes and we strive to make the areas we develop become even better places to live.

“We all know the incredibly difficult time that care homes have faced over the past few months and we also understand the importance of the local newspaper to the community, especially those who may struggle to get news from elsewhere.

“The Courier has been at the heart of the community for many decades and we want to play our part in supporting its future whilst at the same time giving some enjoyment to the residents of our wonderful care homes.”

A spokesperson for Drummohr and Tranent care homes said: “Local newspapers are the cornerstone of communities.

“This is a fantastic initiative run by Robertson Homes which will support our residents to stay connected to the world around us, which is more important now than ever.”

Thousands of copies of the Courier were bought and delivered to residents shielding during lockdown by kind-hearted community resilience groups and organisations such as Haddington Rotary Club.
