AN UPDATE on ambitious plans for the outskirts of Dunbar will be given to community councillors next week.

Proposals for DunBear Park, on land to the rear of the town’s Asda store and garden centre, were unveiled to the public at the beginning of June.

The public exhibition, which took place online due to coronavirus restrictions, featured drawings which highlighted the possibility of retail and leisure units, drive-thru units, and a hotel being created on the site which surrounds the DunBear sculpture, which was revealed last year.

Other potential developments on the 54.3-acre site include offices, a nursery, care home and elderly amenity flats, as well as industrial and storage units.

The plans also included 100 low-carbon affordable homes for rent, which, according to the developers, would be aimed at key workers such as NHS staff, police and care workers.

Pippa Swan, chairwoman of the town’s community council, alerted colleagues that Hallhill Developments, which is behind the proposals, was keen to update the group.

That will take place via a Zoom call at the community council’s next meeting on Monday.

A planning application is expected to be submitted to East Lothian Council in the near future.
