AN EAST Lothian singer has released her new song, unaware that when she wrote it two years ago it would become a personal lockdown anthem.

Suzanne Butler (pictured) lives in Ormiston and released the song Too Much Company on June 22.

The 42-year-old described the song as cheery with an upbeat feel.

However, she said the lyrics “set out the frustration of needing some space from the people you live with”.

Suzanne, a mum of two, said: “Now that many of us have spent four months in the near-constant company of our other household members, I’m probably not the only one to feel like I’m going slightly crazy at times!

“Like many songwriters, my songs are how I express my feelings about life, and I’m hoping that this personal experience will strike a chord with lots of other folk out there at the moment.”

The music video for the song was filmed at Suzanne’s house and in the local countryside, all within a kilometre of her home. It was filmed by husband Sandy, a videographer.

Suzanne said: “I’m lucky to have been able to make something that’s so varied and professional with just the two of us working on it.

“The outdoors has been a great stress reliever – getting out for a walk or a run or a cycle gives people some much-needed space at the moment – so all these activities feature in the film, along with some humorous bits of me dragging the children around on sledges (with no snow!) and being ‘drowned’ in cuddly toys.”

She said she had received positive feedback on the song, with people saying it expressed their lockdown frustrations.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Suzanne has had to put her public performances on hold. She had originally planned to perform a series of concerts to launch her upcoming debut album Be Your Own Man this summer. These are now on hold.

Suzanne is planning to release the album later this year on her own record label called Limpet Records. She also cancelled a gig in Edinburgh at the end of March due to coronavirus.

Suzanne added: “I’ll still release the album in the autumn and I look forward to playing the songs with my amazing band as soon as possible.”

The song is available to listen to on all major online platforms.
