THE cleanliness of the River Esk remains a priority for me as the MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, and I am going to continue working with the relevant bodies to seek progress on the issues connected with the water.

I had a meeting with Scottish Water and SEPA this week, which was very productive. We are looking at both urgent, short-term fixes and long-term solutions to the issues at hand.

Clean-ups are already underway to remove debris from burns flowing into the river.

I know that there is also concern about an orange colouring in parts of the River Esk, which is a result of mine water carrying minerals into the river.

I will continue ongoing discussions with SEPA and the Coal Authority to ascertain the best way to resolve this going forward.

I know this issue is very important to many constituents and I would like to assure everyone that this is high on my agenda.

The coronarvirus pandemic has been a difficult time for many, and I know that many who experience autism would benefit from some extra support through this period.

The National Autistic Society Scotland is offering support to autistic people and their families throughout the pandemic and has launched new groups to help them at this time.

This includes all different kinds of interest groups, and also one to support families and carers. To get involved, people just need to contact ScotlandSocialGroups@nas.org.uk

As we approach the next phases of the easing of lockdown rules, we will begin to see more businesses opening.

I am glad that there continue to be announcements of financial support from the Scottish Government for businesses, with one of the most recent providing a provisional date of 15 July for tourism businesses re-opening, and the launch of a £30 million Creative, Tourism and Hospitality Enterprises Hardship Fund.

It’s been a tough time for businesses, and I have dealt with a huge number of enquiries from constituents. I’d like to reiterate that I am always here to help local constituents and business owners in whatever way I can.
