THE Fraser Centre in Tranent has been given a funding boost, with grants totalling more than £14,000.

The Corra Foundation awarded the centre £13,170, while the second grant of £1,234 came from the Bank of Scotland Foundation.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “These grants are extremely important to The Fraser Centre Community Trust during this closure and are gratefully appreciated.”

The Fraser Centre, located on Winton Place, closed its doors on March 19, a decision staff say they did not take lightly.

Its doors remain closed and there is no date set for reopening, although centre staff say they hope to do so in phase three of the Scottish Government’s plan to ease lockdown restrictions.

Staff continue to monitor government guidance and will update the community in due course.

However, they have warned that some events may be able to return quicker than others, and all will be subject to new restrictions to comply with health guidance.

While the centre has been closed, several groups based in the building have moved online.

Groups such as senior Pilates, the dementia friendship group and arts group now hold classes on Zoom.
