THIS year’s Musselburgh Festival has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, joining a long list of county events that have also been shelved.
Alison Elgin, president of organisers the Honest Toun’s Association, announced the news today (Wednesday).
She said: “It is with much sadness that we have made the difficult decision to cancel our election for Honest Lad and Honest Lass 2020 and our Festival Week.
“While the traditions of our town are dear to our hearts, we must consider the health and wellbeing of our townsfolk.”
The festival will return next year.
Alison added: “Thank you for your continued support and friendship and we look forward to celebrating a happy, healthy festival in 2021.
“Our thoughts are with all other committees, trusts and principals who also have difficult decisions to make over the coming weeks and months.”
Musselburgh Festival Week was due to take place July 19 to July 25.
