RESIDENTS have been urged to stay out of the water at Belhaven Bay, Dunbar due to "the possibility of faecal contamination".
A SEPA spokesperson said on Monday: “We’re aware that there has been an incident at Dunbar Waste Water Treatment Works which is affecting the standard of sewage treatment at the works.
“We’re assisting the council in relation to advisory signs being placed around Belhaven Bay warning of the possibility of faecal contamination.”
East Lothian Council announced last Friday that it has been made aware of a “potential water quality issue” there.
And today said that, as a precaution, notices advising against bathing, paddling or playing in the sea or streams at Belhaven remained in place.
