THE new £13million second platform and lifts at Dunbar Railway Station will enter service this Sunday.
Network Rail engineers have been working since May to construct the 271-metre-long second platform and a fully-accessible steel footbridge, with sandstone-clad lift towers.
About £13million has been invested at Dunbar Railway Station.
The new platform will provide increased capacity and improve operational flexibility at Dunbar, as currently all northbound and southbound services have to use the same platform.
Northbound stopping services will now use the new platform and it will also allow train companies on the East Coast Main Line to operate more services on the route in the future if they wish.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Work on the platform and footbridge is progressing well and we expect to open the new facilities for passengers this weekend as planned.”
There will also be an official opening event on Tuesday, the details of which have not yet been confirmed.
