COCKENZIE Business Centre was sold ahead of its scheduled auction last Thursday.

The details of the sale are yet to be released.

The business centre on Edinburgh Road currently brings in £35,964 per year in rent from its 13 long-standing occupiers, all of whom are on rolling leases.

The former school was advertised as having potential for residential conversion in the future by property auctioneers Acuitus.

However, Councillor John McMillan, Provost of East Lothian and spokesman for economic development and tourism, said: “The property is allocated for employment-related uses and planning policy for this site does not permit housing use.

“On that basis I would expect that the new owner would continue to operate the CBC as a business centre and look forward to engagement on future prospects.”
