A REPORT revealing the cause of an incident where two seven-year-olds were injured in Tranent Parish Church Hall will not be made public.

More than 40 parents and children were in the building last October for a meeting of the town’s Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

A section of ceiling collapsed, which saw emergency services called out to the Church Street building, with two boys injured.

A report on the cause is “imminent” but East Lothian Council has revealed that the report will not be released to the public.

A council spokeswoman said: “The nature of the material in the report is such that it is generally not made available for the public.

“Some aspects could be available following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.”

However, even then, large chunks of the report are likely to be redacted.

The report investigates causes, consequences and lessons that may be learned in respect of future prevention.

Evidence gathered during an investigation forms the basis of a report which ultimately informs the course of action of the environmental health service.

Last week, a Church of Scotland spokeswoman said they were awaiting the report’s release.

She said: “Since the accident occurred in October last year, we have been working closely with the council’s regulatory services department as they carried out their investigations.

“We will welcome the report when published but it would be inappropriate to comment further until it has been made public.”
