HADDINGTON’S pipers have been thrown into the role of unlikely movie stars in the band’s latest calendar.

Haddington Pipe Band launches its 2020 calendar this weekend, with this year’s taking on a movie theme.

The launch is at the town’s The Loft Cafe today (Saturday), where the 13 shots that were taken for the calendar by photographer Paul Bock will be on show until January.

Alastair Bruce, from Haddington Pipe Band, said: “We decided on a slightly different approach this time round and we’ve certainly had a lot of fun putting these shots together.

“Our inspiration was iconic film posters so, working with Paul, we have recreated and re-interpreted 13 well-known posters and given them all a piping and drumming twist, with band members taking the starring roles.

“We’ve also put a spin on the titles and the other text which featured on the originals.”

The group are recreating posters from popular movies including Braveheart, Trainspotting, Harry Potter, Chariots of Fire, The Sound of Music and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Alastair added: “It’s a pleasure to pay tribute to Paul Bock, who has done an absolutely fantastic job with the shots; his creativity was unbelievable.

“Aimee Colley of Shaw Marketing and Design also did a terrific job creating the artwork and Lori Walker was a huge help in turning band members into film stars with her make-up skills.

“Of course, the real stars are the band members themselves!

“We are also extremely grateful to the many businesses and organisations who have kindly sponsored the production. Their support is invaluable.”

The calendar will be on sale soon and available at various shops across the town, as well as online at haddingtonpipeband.co.uk

All of the funds raised will be used to pay for tuition, instruments, uniforms and other initiatives the band help to develop.

Starting in 2011, previous years have seen the pipe band produce calendars with themes such as celebrating Haddington and twists on titles of songs they play.
