AMERICAN star Matt Kuchar is among four players tied for the lead at the end of the first day's play at the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.

Kuchar shot an eight-under-par 63 in today's first round, leaving him tied with Frenchman Romain Wattel and Italian duo Edoardo Molinari and Nino Bertasio.

Other big names who impressed were Sweden's Henrik Stenton and Englishman Ian Poulter, who finished two shots behind the leaders, as did Richie Ramsay, who is the top-placed Scot after the first round.

East Lothian's Grant Forrest also had a fine showing, finishing with a four-under-par 67, the same total as four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy.

Former Dunbar Grammar School pupil David Drysdale finished a shot further back but it also in good shape to make the cut with a similar round in tomorrow's second day of play.
