A SECTION of the A1 in East Lothian will be shut every night for a week while roadworks take place.

Maintenance work will be carried out overnight on the westbound (northbound) A1 layby to Gladsmuir between 8pm and 6am each night from Sunday, July 28, till Sunday, August 4.

A signed diversion will be in place.

Traffic will exit the westbound A1 via Oaktree Junction westbound off-slip road to join the A199 and on to the B6363.

From here, vehicles will travel to the westbound Gladsmuir Junction on-slip road to re-join the westbound A1.

This work, with a value of £199,000 will benefit around 13,000 vehicles using this route each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for further more extensive maintenance, said Amey, which is responsible for maintaining the A1.

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Lothian Buses and East Lothian Council.
