A CARE home which has undergone a £9 million revamp has been given a boost after care inspectors improved its grades following an unannounced visit.

Muirfield Nursing Home was praised for its “compassionate care” for residents by its staff.

The home, in Gullane, is run by Randolph Hill Nursing Homes Group, which invested in a redevelopment of the facilities.

The inspection last month saw the home receive quality grades of 4 (good) for five indicators including leadership, staffing, care and support,  supporting wellbeing and its setting.

Previous inspections had seen the home scoring 3 (adequate) across inspected indicators in recent years, although its setting scored 4 last year.

Inspectors said: “We saw that residents experienced compassionate care as warm, kind relationships with staff were evident. There was a lot of natural, respectful interaction. We heard appropriate use of humour and banter.”

Staff were also praised for being “good advocates” for residents when it came to dealing with other health professionals and relatives spoke of their confidence that their family members well being well cared for.

The inspection report highlighted a number of areas where improvements could be carried out but made no requirements or recommendations.

Major Michael Williams MBE, Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian, officially opened the new refurbished home last week, which sees 60 high-spec en suite rooms and an additional 30 jobs created alongside its current staff of 50.
