THE grounds of Drummohr House, near Musselburgh, will be transformed into the Land of Oz for another visual spectacular next week.

The makers of last year’s Dragons of Drummohr interactive event are once again hoping to draw big crowds for their second annual outdoor spectacular in East Lothian.

Edinburgh theatre company Vision Mechanics is turning its attention to one of the most beloved stories of all time, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

From next Thursday (October 4) to October 28, audiences will be challenged to reunite the warring kingdom of Oz.

Using a special Quest for Oz mobile phone app, visitors will be tasked with searching the grounds for the yellow bricks that the Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Lion have saved, to try and rebuild the Yellow Brick Road.

They will experience the Carnival of Dreams, step into the Bubble Garden of Glinda the Good, lose themselves in the Mind Maze, test their courage in the Blue Witch Badlands and meet the Marvellous Professor Marvel.

Vision Mechanics say this is their most ambitious project yet, combining storytelling, huge light installations and augmented reality.

Symon Macintyre, artistic director of Vision Mechanics, said: “We’re creating new light installations, sound designs, and putting characters into the woods to retell our own story of Oz.

“Our objective is to make people feel as if they’re the central character within a theatre story.

“We’ve got a strong character line running through Quest For Oz which is different to the years before – there’s the bad witch in the middle of the badlands, Glinda in her Bubble Palace, and Dr Wonder in his caravan selling lucky charms. There’s lots of people and things you can talk to and interact with, and we’ve also given our augmented reality side of things a randomness, so everyone plays a different kind of game.”

In conjunction with Quest for Oz will be Sing for Oz, a musical outreach programme for P7 classes in East Lothian.

The results of these workshops will feature as part of Quest for Oz’s spectacular installation The Monkey Gate, a 10-metre-tall projection of the face of a flying monkey, made up of thousands of smaller flying monkey faces.

Quest For Oz is supported by Creative Scotland, East Lothian Council and Event Scotland and is an event within the Year of Young People programme.

Visitors will meet at the Wallyford Park and Ride, where the free Emerald City shuttle bus will take them to the the Land of Oz.

Showings are at 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm, 7.30pm and 8pm. For tickets go to tickets.questforoz.org
