A NEAR £4 million project to improve a waste water treatment plant on the outskirts of Haddington could get under way by the end of the year.
Scottish Water has submitted plans for the Haddington Sewage Works, to the north of Amisfield Walled Garden.
The scheme, which is being weighed up by East Lothian Council’s planning team, would see various facilities created, including a pumping station.
A spokesman for Scottish Water told the Courier work could get under way before the end of 2018, if planning permission was granted.
He said: “Scottish Water will be carrying out a £3.8 million upgrade and maintenance project at the Haddington Wastewater Treatment Works.
“The work, which includes upgrades to the treatment process, will ensure that the works can continue to operate effectively now and in the future.”
