PRESTONPANS businessman Harry Hastie lived for his garage, even keeping an eye on the forecourt years after he retired.

Mr Hastie, who passed away on Tuesday, July 17, aged 86, was a well-known figure at John Hastie and Son garage on Mid Road in the town.

And even after he handed the reins of the family business on to his son Mark, he could be seen out front regularly taking an interest in the business.

Daughter Pauline said that her dad, and his wife of 55 years Liz, were devoted to the business and their family.

The couple lived in a house attached to the garage itself and were able to keep a watchful eye on goings-on after retirement.

Pauline said: “Dad’s life was his garage. It was started by his father and he took over from him. Even though dad had retired he liked to go out on the forecourt.”

Mr Hastie was grandfather to five grandsons.

His funeral was held in Mortonhall Crematorium last Friday.
