EAST Lothian features in a high society magazine’s list of the top state schools.

Tatler’s guide to the UK’s best state schools in 2018 includes North Berwick High School and St Mary’s RC Primary School, Haddington.

It describes North Berwick High School as the “holder of the strongest attainment results in East Lothian” and says acting headteacher Robert Jones is doing “a grand job”.

Mr Jones told the Courier: “I am hugely proud of our school – of our hard-working, enthusiastic pupils, our dedicated and professional staff, and our supportive, engaged parents.

“I am delighted our collective endeavours have been recognised in this way, although I must confess I am not a regular reader of Tatler!”

Meanwhile, Tatler praised Claire Graham, headteacher at St Mary’s in Haddington, and described the school building, which opened in 2012, as “smart”.

St Mary’s headteacher told the Courier: “We are delighted that St Mary’s has been recognised as a place where parents and carers may wish to send their children. Staff are incredibly committed and there is a strong ethos of promoting wellbeing across the school, resulting in our children being respectful, nurturing, inclusive and responsible young people.”
