RESIDENTS in an East Lothian village are being given a year's free subscription to Amazon Prime.

Garvald and Bara residents are being given a free subscription to the television, music and delivery service to mark a decade since it launched in the UK.

Ten villages throughout the UK have been recognised as their residents have been among the most frequent Amazon customers over the past decade.

They will receive 12 months' free Prime membership - which usually costs £79 annually - while existing members will receive a free 12 months on top of their current subscription.

Select households will also be chosen at random to receive a trip to London and a pair of tickets to a popular show at The O2.

And Penny Short, chairwoman of Garvald and Morham Community Council, said it was "great news for the village".

She told the Courier: "I have already signed up for a year so I'll get a year's free subscription.

"I mainly use it for the parcels – I don't really watch any television using it.

"It's really positive news for the village."

Doug Gurr, Amazon's UK country manager, said: "We’re thrilled to be giving Prime membership to these residents, who are some of our most loyal Amazon customers.

“It’s our pleasure to reward those who are already members with 12 additional months on us, and for those that haven’t yet tried Prime we hope they will enjoy a chance to experience all the great benefits that come with it.”
