RNLI crews from Dunbar and North Berwick were called out to separate incidents on Tuesday.

The Dunbar crew responded to reports that two girls were cut off from the tide and raced to the scene after receiving a call from the UK Coastguard at about 2.25pm.

Once the all-weather (ALB) and inshore lifeboats (ILB) arrived at the scene, off the coast at Pease Bay Leisure Park, both girls were found safe and well with their parents. Due to blustery winds, the ALB escorted the ILB back to Dunbar before heading back to Torness.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day the North Berwick inshore lifeboat responded to a call of a yacht drifting near Gullane.

They were alerted by North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team shortly before noon.

On their arrival, North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team were observing the vessel, which was on the beach at Gullane Point. A search for anyone in the water was carried out by the lifeboat with a “negative result”.

The yacht is believed to have broken its mooring in Dalgety Bay and blown across from Fife.
