FRIENDS and former team-mates joined forces to remember an East Lothian rugby stalwart last Friday.
A tournament between Musselburgh, Preston Lodge and Haddington was held for the second successive year in memory of Craig McGeary, a former player and coach with the clubs.
Mr McGeary died suddenly while playing golf last summer, aged 43.
More than 60 former team-mates, including Haddington’s ex-Scotland internationalist Cammie Murray, donned their boots to remember the ex-Scotland age-grade player, who worked in the PE department at Loretto School in Musselburgh.
The round-robin tournament at the Pennypit was won by hosts PL, taking the title from Haddington.
The event raised £800 for the Craig McGeary Sports Foundation.
Graeme Patterson, one of Mr McGeary’s friends said: “Craig would have loved it.”
Another to pull on his boots was Andrew Clark, PL head coach, who said: “It was a good night and the rugby was played in good spirits.
“It was a good chance for all of Craig’s mates to have a catch up and remember him.”
A spokesman for Preston Lodge RFC also hailed the event as a “great celebration of rugby”.
Next year’s event will take place at Neilson Park, home of Haddington RFC.
