ENGINEERS are working at Tranent substation today after power cuts hit the town and surrounding areas for the second time in a week.
Thousands of homes were left in the dark last night after reports of the power going out at least three times.
ScottishPower said it restored electricity quickly following a fault at the substation which affected homes in Tranent and neighbouring Prestonpans.
It came just seven days after a power cut hit homes in the towns around 10.30pm at night.
Last night reports of the power going out came initially at around 8.25pm.
A spokesperson for ScottishPower said: "It is extremely rare to have two faults of this kind in a short space of time.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and our engineers are working in the area today."
