TOOLS were stolen from a van in broad daylight before a man was threatened with a knife.
Police are investigating the incident, which took place on July 26 at about 1.15pm, when an East Lothian Council employee was working on Eskview Terrace.
He challenged the suspect, who then threatened him with a knife.
The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 25, 5ft 8in tall, and slim.
He was wearing a blue cap and a grey/blue hooded top and he made off in a silver Ford Ka, alongside another man of a similar age.
Sergeant Derek MacDonald said: “This incident happened in broad daylight.
“We are keeping an open mind but there is nothing to suggest this incident is linked to a later theft [of power tools from a van] on Eskview Terrace on July 31.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting incident 1587 of July 26.
Tools worth a four figure sum were also stolen from a Ford Transit van which was broken into on Galt Avenue between 8pm and 7am on July 24.
