A 13-year-old boy was knocked down by a car on Tranent High Street at lunchtime yesterday.
The Ross High School pupil was taken to hospital following the incident which happened at around 1.10pm.
It is understood he suffered a suspected broken shoulder bone.
Police said they are investigating the incident, which is the second time in 15 months that a pupil from the school has been injured on the road.
A 15-year-old boy was struck as he crossed High Street at a pedestrian crossing, in February last year.
The female driver was later convicted of careless driving, fined £500 and banned from the road for six months.
Fiona Robertson, East Lothian Council's head of education, confirmed the second incident.
She said: “We can confirm that one of our pupils was injured in a road traffic accident in Tranent on Monday afternoon and that everyone at Ross High sends their best wishes for a good recovery.”
Police Scotland said it was investigating the circumstances surround the incident.
A police spokesman said: "The 13-year-old suffered an injury to his shoulder and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
"Inquiries into this incident are ongoing."
