A DRUG dealer and her husband dumped the dead body of a man near to a Haddington sewage works after he died in their house.

Angela and Thomas Leckie discovered the body of Andrew Gillies in an upstairs bedroom of their home.

Mr Gillies was said to have gone to the bedroom of the Leckies’ home at Abbots View alone before being found dead about 12 hours later.

The pair then moved the body of 33-year-old Mr Gillies into a sleeping bag before moving him into a Transit van.

His body was then abandoned near to the works at the town’s Amisfield and was discovered by a passer-by at about 6am on April 18 last year.

Angela Leckie, 39, and 51-year-old Thomas Leckie appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this week, where they pleaded guilty to moving Mr Gillies’ body and disposing of his clothing between April 16 and 18 last year.

Angela Leckie also admitted to supplying heroin from her home address on April 16 last year.

The court heard that Mr Gillies had gone to the Leckies’ home and had bought three £10 bags of heroin before heading upstairs with the drugs and a syringe.

The pair said they found Mr Gillies slumped on the bed with a syringe nearby and put him into a recovery position before leaving him snoring on the bed.

They then left the property and returned later to find Mr Gillies had passed away.

At about 10pm on Sunday, April 17, the Leckies put his body into a sleeping bag and transported his body to a van by using a trolley.

The married couple were soon apprehended after Gillies’ girlfriend reported to police he was missing and that he had gone to spend that weekend with the Leckies.

Sheriff Norman MacFadyen remanded the pair in custody ahead of sentencing later this month.

Both are now facing a lengthy jail term after pleading guilty to defeating the ends of justice and attempting to defeat the ends of justice by moving Mr Gillies’ body and abandoning it at Amisfield, Haddington, between April 16 and 18 last year.

Angela Leckie also admitted supplying heroin from her home on April 16, 2016, while Thomas Leckie’s not guilty plea to stealing £100 from the dead man’s bank account the following day was accepted by the Crown.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Courier: “Police in East Lothian investigated the death of a 33-year-old man after his body was found near Haddington Sewage Works in April last year.

“Our inquiries established that the circumstances surrounding his death were unexplained and a report was sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
