ANOTHER busy section of the A1 is to be closed overnight later this week for roadworks.
Maintenance work on the westbound A1 between the Gladsmuir and Dolphingstone Junctions will take place overnight from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Saturday.
This follows recent work on other sections of the A1 in the county, most recently near Wallyford and Dunbar, both of which also required full overnight road closures.
The latest work will require a closure of the westbound A1 between the Gladsmuir and Dolphingstone junctions, with a signed diversion route in operation.
Westbound traffic will be directed to exit at Gladsmuir Junction off-slip road and travel via the B6363 and A199 through Tranent to re-join the westbound A1 at the Dolphingstone Junction.
This closure will allow road workers to perform routine maintenance work and ensure their safety, which road operators Amey says would not be possible under partial closures.
"Undertaking this work now will ensure the continued good performance of the A1 at this location and reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future," added Amey.
The work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, bus operating companies, Police Scotland and East Lothian Council.
