COUNTY TV legend Ronnie Corbett has passed away at the age of 85.

The actor, comedian, broadcaster and writer is best known for his role in The Two Ronnies, alongside Ronnie Barker, who passed away in 2005.

He was one of the UK's best loved comedians and was well-known for his one-liners.

Mr Corbett, who was born in Edinburgh and had a home in Gullane, died surrounded by his family, said his publicist.

Major Michael Williams, the county's Lord Lieutenant, said the comedian would be "sadly missed by many, many people all over the world but particularly in East Lothian".

He added: "I didn't know much about him apart from his fame on television but I have met him a couple of times.

"He has been a huge asset to East Lothian and supported all sorts of charities and people around the county and has been a really good citizen."

Ronnie Corbett's publicist said: "One of the nation's best-loved entertainers passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family."
