Police are appealing for witnesses after yet another fire-raising incident in Musselburgh's Beach Lane area.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Friday when a bin store was set alight.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and quickly brought the fire under control.

This was the latest in a series of wilful fire-raising incidents in Musselburgh over the last week and officers are keen to hear from anyone who has information that can help trace those responsible.

Two men were seen at the bin store a short while before the fire and officers are particularly keen to speak to them.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Matt Paden said: “I would like to assure the local community that we are doing everything we can to find those responsible for causing these fires in Musselburgh.

“We are working closely with our partners in East Lothian Council and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to apply every available resource to putting a stop to this reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour.

“We have extra patrols of police officers working with community wardens throughout Musselburgh this weekend carrying out door-to-door inquiries and available for any local resident who has concerns or who wishes to pass on information.

“A CCTV van is in operation throughout Musselburgh and a dedicated team of detectives is investigating these crimes.

“Specialist resources from a national Police Scotland unit have also been deployed.”
