EIGHTEEN jobs have been created after a hotel which shut its doors more than two years ago officially re-opened.

The Rossborough Hotel, on Queens Road, closed in 2012.

Now, Philip and Lesley Mellor have re-opened the former Goldenstones Hotel under the new name of the Dunmuir Hotel.

Mr Mellor, a director of the hotel, told the Courier it was the culmination of a lot of work.

He said: “We first saw it in March last year on a dreich, cold day when we first came out to the town.

“I don’t know if it was love at first sight but ‘oh my God’ and other words were said.” Since then, £250,000 has been pumped into the hotel by the couple, who have more than 25 years of experience in the industry.

Philip, 48, said a lot of work had been carried out, with more than half a dozen skips filled, but they were now looking forward to 2015.

Already, 12 full-time jobs have been created, with a further half dozen part-time positions.

The hotel has already hosted a charity night for Dunbar nursery and a wedding reception since opening in November, with more weddings planned for the coming months.

The building, which has 20 bedrooms as well as a bar and restaurant, has also undergone a name change.

Philip explained: “We’ve decided on Dunmuir, which comes from Dunbar and John Muir.

“There is also a link to the Goldenstones because we have named the main suite the Goldenstones Suite. People want to get married in the Goldenstones.”
