FIREFIGHTERS in gas-tight suits helped tackle a mercury spill at a North Berwick doctors surgery yesterday (Wednesday).
The spillage, from a blood pressure monitor at North Berwick Health Centre, saw firefighters called out at 4.06pm yesterday.
The surgery was evacuated by the fire crews on arrival, before two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and gas-tight suits entered the consultation room.
They used sand to clear the spillage and removed the contaminated carpet.
The building was ventilated under the guidance of a Hazmat officer, with the incident over by 5.46pm.
The surgery remains operating as normal.
