LORETTO School’s maths wizards have been placed in the top two per cent of a UK-wide competition.
The team of four pupils competed against teams from across the British Isles in the final of the UK Team Maths Challenge trophy.
They secured their place in the top 80 finalists after winning the East of Scotland regional final earlier this year.
More than 2,500 teams took part in total, with the Loretto team finishing in 42nd place.
The national final, which is run by the UK Mathematics Trust, involves teams of four pupils from Years 8 and 9 competing in a range of complex number games and challenges.
Jonathan Hewat, director of external affairs at Loretto School, said: “We do congratulate the Loretto team on their wonderful performance in this prestigious competition and they certainly enjoyed this fantastic opportunity to meet and compete with some of the very best young mathematicians from across the UK.”
