Sweet Charity

Green Door Theatre present Fosse's rarely-performed 60s classic Sweet Charity.

Sweet Charity premiered on Broadway in 1966, and it still feels somewhat like you’re watching a 60s Manhattan fairytale. Charity Hope Valentine is a taxi dancer in a Times Square dancehall, and while her friends dream of getting out of that life for good, all Charity really wants is love. She’s headstrong, quirky, flirtatious, genuine, witty... and has disastrous taste in men.

The combination of music and Fosse's spectacular choreography is iconic, featuring standout numbers like ‘Hey, Big Spender’, ‘The Rhythm of Life’, and ‘Rich Man’s Frug’. With any luck, you might just leave the theatre with a spring in your step and a tiny glint of optimism in your eye – and what could be more needed these days than a classic slice of musical theatre escapism?
