Letter of the week: Repairing Brunton Hall smartest option

I have listened to Tom Reid, head of place, giving his report to East Lothian Council.

Each member present supported his view that, should The Brunton be listed by Historic Environment Scotland, it would be condemned to a bleak future.

I represent the views of many Musselburgh citizens who believe that listing The Brunton will render it eligible for funding from a variety of sources.

Additionally, should business opportunities within the large building be offered, then partnership or cocktail funding could contribute to the repairs needed.

I believe also that the generous people of Musselburgh, who are forever grateful for the gift given by Brunton so long ago, would willingly give what they could to restore The Brunton.

The building repaired would be much less environmentally damaging than the gargantuan task of demolition, designing and rebuilding.
