Ross High 69 Earlston 7

ROSS High are now just a point behind East 2 leaders Barnton after another big win at home on Saturday.

The Tranent side returned to home action following their 92-point demolition of Lismore and produced another superb display, scoring 12 tries against the Borders side.

Aiden Hoenigmann got the scoreboard ticking with the hosts’ first try early on, before Earlston struck back, taking the lead after a try from their blindside flanker was converted.

Ross scored their second try through Matthew Martin, while Rob Peden got their third minutes later.

A fourth try, the first of a hat-trick from skipper Ryan Strachan, wrapped up a try bonus point, before Joshua Jack’s score, and three conversions from Ryan Hook ensured a 31-7 half-time lead.

The hosts’ dominance continued after the interval, with Rob Peden touching down for his second of the game before Blair Patterson grabbed Ross’ sixth try.

Strachan went over for his second, Hook converting to take the Belters to the half-century mark, and there was still time for the Ross High captain to complete his hat-trick.

Prop Nick Tinlin also crossed for the home team, who remain unbeaten and face 10th-place Edinburgh Northern in the Capital on Saturday.
