A COUNTY-born golf star is set to compete in China later this month.

Teenager Adam Coull, originally from Haddington, has been selected to attend The Harmony Cup in China, which gets under way on July 13.

The 15-year-old moved with his family to Sydney almost a decade ago, but plays under the Scottish flag in the Jack Newton Junior Golf Association in New South Wales.

He is one of only two Australian-based players to be taking part in the tournament in its inaugural year.

Ten top American junior golfers will compete with 10 from Australasia in a match play format at Henan Jinsha Lake Golf Club.

Brian Coull, Adam's dad, told Courier Sport: "Adam has been golfing seriously for six years and is a member of Bankstown Golf Club here in Sydney, where he plays off a handicap of three.

"He's been playing in the golfing foundation for four years, and they run the competitions like professional events.

"He has been extremely successful in a lot of these events.

"As you can imagine, we are all very exicted [about him going to China]."
