THOMAS Simmonds was crowned Gullane Golf Club champion, after the final took place at the weekend.

Simmonds held off Stuart Roberts to win the trophy, edging the final 2&1 after some superb play from the pair.

It is the 20-year-old's first championship win at the club, where he has been a member for more than a decade.

Elsewhere, Andy Crummey beat Stephen Lindsey to take the Doctors Trophy (handicap) and Colin Manson beat Duncan Shearer in the final of the Marston Trophy.

William Ladbrooke won the junior championship, and Valdemar Hunderboll was crowned under-14 champion.

For Gullane Ladies, Jill McNicoll became Ladies’ Champion with Hilary Cochran winning the Bronze Championship.

Gullane Golf Club Willie Biggart and Gullane Ladies Golf Club Captain Nicky Black attended throughout the day and presented the trophies.

David Morgan, the club secretary, praised the standard of golf on display throughout championship week.

He told Courier Sport: “Club Championship Week is one of the most important weeks at the club for our members and we are delighted that after a mixed week of weather, the sun shined for us on Sunday afternoon.

"Thanks to all our championship competitors and their supporters for making finals day so enjoyable. ”
