EAST Lothian IBC starlet Aaron Betts added to his recent national fours triumph by on Sunday becoming the youngest ever winner of the East of Scotland under-17 singles. . . aged just 12.

The youngster captured the crown in the event played at the Alex Marshall Arena at Meadowmill.

He claimed his place in the record books by defeating Midlothian’s Ellie Borthwick in convincing fashion to take the title, winning 14-4 in the final.

Twenty-four players representing eight East of Scotland clubs – Abbeyview, Alloa, Bainfield, East Fife, East Lothian, Falkirk, Midlothian and Stirling – competed in the tournament, sponsored by East Lothian IBC Pro Shop.

Sparkling performances by Betts in his group play saw him win his section with relative ease, before his challenge blossomed with wins over Eilidh Weir (Alloa) and Bainfield’s Andrew Jamieson in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively.

Another local youngster, Beth Riva, also enjoyed a wonderful run before being beaten by Borthwick in the semi-final.
