THE curtain fell on the ladies’ bowls season at the weekend, with the Champion of Champions event at Dunbar Bowling Club.

In the singles, Athelstaneford’s Kim Hoggan took an early lead against defending champion Mags Thomson of Castlepark by 7 shots to 2 after 8 ends.

At end 21 it was all change, with Thomson leading Hoggan by 18 shots to 14, but with her last bowl on the next end Hoggan trailed the jack for a four to tie the match at 18-18.

Shots were traded over the next three ends, with Thomson eventually prevailing 21-19 to retain her title.

In the pairs, Gullane duo Alicia Irvine and Irene Cunningham took on Cockenzie and Port Seton BC sisters Lauren and Leanne Baillie.

With the Baillies leading 17-15 on the penultimate end, Gullane got a 2 to make the match all square before going on to to take victory on the final end by 18-17.

North Berwick Bowling Club, represented by Nancy Hughes, Irene Robertson and Gill Harley, were leading the Castlepark trio of Grace Thomson, Tracey Jack and Nicola Thomson 9 shots to 4 after 11 ends in the triples; however, a run of 1, 2 and 3 shots on consecutive ends took Castlpark into a 10-9 lead after 14 ends.

North Berwick got the shot on end 15 to take the match into an extra end and with the last bowl of the match Harley drew the shot required to give North Berwick the triples title.

And in the final of the rink, Linda Johnson, Eleanor Bisset, Beth Riva and Morag Wood of Gifford had a comfortable win over Ella Gorman, Agnes Heaney, Beth McDonald and Rose McAnish 22-13.

Meanwhile, this year’s Wednesday League was won by Dunbar, with Gullane finishing as runners-up, while Castlepark claimed victory in the Evening League, ahead of East Lothian Co-op.

The Top 6 was contested by Castlepark and Cockenzie & Port Seton.

Mags Thomson took on Rose McAnish in the singles, winning 21-18; Lauren and Leanne Baillie defeated Karen Davison and Janet Fairnie in the pairs by 21-13, with Castlepark winning the competition with their triple of Grace Thomson, Tracey Jack and Nicola Thomson defeating Ella Gorman, Liz Brown and Ann Williams 23-5 to take the title.
