THERE was cup success for three East Lothian football sides over the weekend while league fixtures returned no points.
Dunbar United, Musselburgh Athletic, Ormiston Primrose and Tranent were all involved in East of Scotland (Qualifying) Cup action on Saturday.
At New Recreation Park, it was Musselburgh who emerged victorious from the all-East Lothian clash with Ormiston.
Bob Wilson opened the scoring for the Premier Division side just before the quarter hour mark.
Summer signing Gabri Auriemma doubled the advantage 14 minutes later and goals from Craig Stevenson and Nicky Reid had the game wrapped up before half time.
To Ormiston’s credit, they restricted their visitors to one goal after the break as Nathan Evans found the net midway through the second half.
Dunbar United were also celebrating a 5-0 win as they ended West Calder United’s cup journey.
Mackenzie Lawler had the New Countess Park side a goal up before the 20-minute mark.
However, Gregor Goldie would be the star of the show as he doubled the home side’s lead before the interval.
The striker would go on to wrap up his hat-trick by the 63rd minute and there was still time for Taylor Hendry to get his name on the scoresheet.
Tranent also enjoyed a successful afternoon in front of goal as they demolished Edinburgh University.
Harry Girdwood opened the scoring in the opening minute before Guy McGarry extended the lead midway through the first half.
There was another goal early in the second half when Ben Miller nodded home and Adam McGowan quickly made it 4-0.
The former East Kilbride man wrapped up his hat-trick before Danny Handling completed the scoring.
Meanwhile, in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division, Haddington went down to a second defeat as Sauchie Juniors moved top of the table with a 3-0 win.
Preston Athletic also went down to a second consecutive defeat as they lost away at Crossgates Primrose in the First Division.
Dean Ballantyne had opened the scoring for the visitors but an equaliser before half time proved crucial as the Fife side went on to win 3-1.
