YOUNG athletes from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) were in action at the Glasgow International Swim Meet over the weekend, held at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
The prestigious meet featured elite adult and junior swimmers from around the world, including strong teams from Denmark and Iceland.
Swimmers competing included Team GB gold medallists from the Tokyo Olympics Kathleen Dawson and Duncan Scott.
Thirty swimmers from ELST qualified for the event, a great achievement given the quality of swimmers in attendance.
Eleven of those swimmers – Conner Aspinall, Tegan Black, Grace Hanak, Luke Hornsey, Stefan Krawiec, Zara Krawiec, Anna Lawson, India Marshall, Caitlin Peebles, Calum Peebles and Zach Slater – went on to qualify for finals.
Hornsey picked up a gold and silver medal in the distance freestyle events (800m and 1,500m), while Marshall swam a great race to win a silver in the 1,500m freestyle.
Aspinall, Stefan and Zara Krawiec, Lawson, Calum Peebles and Slater also finished in the top three in B and Junior finals.
Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was delighted with all the swimmers’ efforts over the weekend.
He said: “This was a great experience for the team, rubbing shoulders with some of the very best swimmers in the world. This meet set us up nicely for end-of-season events where the team will be competing locally, as well as in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester, Sunderland and Sheffield.”
