There was a new winner of the women’s trophy as Jennifer Wetton, of Central AC (Stirling), came home in 2hr10m. She finished more than five minutes clear of Antonia Müller from Leipzig, while Alison Rowatt took third spot.

NB runners Roger Peppiette and Jo Thompson were part of a team called ‘NB2 Slow’ that finished sixth in the team competition, won by EAC.

A spokesperson for the event said: “There was a lively atmosphere at the finish, as the tired runners enjoyed good quality food from the Dunbar Community Bakery. Afterwards, buses from Eve Coaches of Dunbar transported many of the runners back to the start area.

“A team of almost 40 volunteers helped to stage the race this year (and last).”
