A MASSIVE weekend of football is on the cards for East Lothian’s six senior sides.
Tranent Juniors are in action this evening (Friday) as they face an immediate rematch with Civil Service Strollers in the Capital.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Haddington Athletic aim to keep Linlithgow Rose’s Champagne on ice with the West Lothian club within touching distance of the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division title.
Musselburgh Athletic could ensure Linlithgow are league champions while also keeping their hopes of finishing second alive when they travel to Sauchie.
In the First Division, Dunbar United face another away trip as they head to Lochore Welfare looking to boost their title hopes.
Preston Athletic will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host relegation-threatened Burntisland Shipyard.
Finally, there is a basement battle in the Second Division as Hawick Royal Albert host Ormiston Primrose.
Tranent’s game kicks off ay 7.45pm while all of tomorrow’s games get under way at 2.30pm.
Match of the Day
Hawick Royal Albert v Ormiston Primrose
East of Scotland Football League Second Division
Ormiston Primrose last five games: LLLDL
A RELEGATION six-pointer takes place at Albert Park.
Both Hawick Royal Albert and Ormiston Primrose are in the relegation places with time fast running out to avoid a drop to the Third Division.
A draw favours neither team as they look to close the gap on Craigroyston, who sit six points ahead of Richie Weir’s men and a further two points clear of the Borders side.
Ormiston won the reverse fixture 4-0 but then lost out in a penalty shoot-out in the King Cup.
Civil Service Strollers v Tranent Juniors
Lowland League Cup
Tranent Juniors last five games: LDLLD
LESS than a week has passed since Civil Service Strollers and Tranent Juniors met on the final day of the Lowland League season.
The Capital club were 3-2 winners at Foresters Park last Saturday but it was Colin Nish’s men who finished higher up the table.
Now, the two sides lock horns again in the League Cup knowing that the season is over for the losing side.
Both will be keen to extend their campaign a little bit longer and keep alive their hopes of finishing the season with silverware.
Haddington Athletic v Linlithgow Rose
East of Scotland Football League Premier Division
Haddington Athletic last five games: WDWWD
EIGHT points clear with just three games to go, it would take quite the collapse for Linlithgow Rose not to be crowned Premier Division champions.
The West Lothian side look well on course to follow in the footsteps of Tranent Juniors, who lifted the title 12 months ago.
Haddington will be looking to delay the celebrations by a few days at least when they welcome the league leaders to Millfield.
Scott Bonar’s men sit seventh in the standings and could yet finish as high as fourth in the table.
Sauchie Juniors v Musselburgh Athletic
East of Scotland Football League Premier Division
Musselburgh Athletic last five games: WDWDL
SECOND hosts third at Beechwood Park as both sides look to finish the season strongly.
Sauchie still have slim hopes of winning the league while Musselburgh retain hopes of pipping their hosts to second spot.
Six points separate the two sides going into the final three games and Musselburgh won at Olivebank back in October.
Depending on the result, it could be enough to see Linlithgow crowned champions.
Lochore Welfare v Dunbar United
East of Scotland Football League First Division
Dunbar United last five games: DWWLL
FIVE points clear at the top of the First Division, Dunbar United are within touching distance of an immediate return to the top flight of the EoSFL.
Three teams are promoted from the First Division with a victory this weekend edging them ever closer to guaranteeing one of those spots.
They face a Lochore Welfare side battling to stay in the division – two points adrift of Coldstream but with two games in hand.
Dunbar were 2-1 winners at New Countess Park last year and would be happy with more of the same.
Preston Athletic v Burntisland Shipyard
East of Scotland Football League First Division
Preston Athletic last five games: LLDLL
SAFELY sandwiched in mid-table, Preston Athletic will be looking to finish the season strongly.
Fifteen points short of the promotion places and nine points clear of relegation, it seems there is little to play for.
However, Paul Currie and John Daly will be keen to pick up three points and enjoy an impressive run of form.
Burntisland drew with Dunbar last weekend and are three points adrift of Coldstream at the bottom of the table.
